He is the eldest son of a teacher father who graduated from a village institute.

Due to his father's duties, he successfully continued his primary and secondary education in different schools within various regions such as Samsun, Yozgat, Maraş and Tokat. He graduated from Tokat Gazi Osman Paşa High School in 1973 as the top student.

He studied at Hacettepe University in the Faculty of Medicine between the years 1973 and 1980.

He started his specialization in the ENT Department at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1985 and became an Otolaryngologist & Head and Neck Surgeon in 1985. His thesis of specialization focuses on inner ear and balance problems as well as related tests.

In the first period of his specialization, he was an observer at Ohio State University in the USA for a while. In the following years, he continued to work as an observer in university hospitals in Hamburg, Hannover and Brussels.

He worked at Zonguldak State Hospital between the years 1985 and 1987 for compulsory service. He was appreciated for his work here, especially for cancer and ear surgeries, which were new to the region. He still maintains a close relationship with Zonguldak.

He did his military service for 16 months in Ağrı Military Hospital starting from June 1987. During this period, he had the opportunity to get to know the region and the people of the region closely.  

In 1989, he started to work as the chief assistant in the ENT clinic of Haseki Training and Research Hospital. He worked most effectively in this hospital, where intensive and various surgeries as well as numerous patient examinations were performed. During his tenure here, he worked temporarily in Hakkari and Keşan State hospitals for 2 months. He had the opportunity to get to know the different conditions in different regions of the country.

He continued to work at Haseki Training and Research Hospital, which trains ENT Specialists, between the years 1992 and 2006 as a lecturer in the staff as ENT Clinic Chief Director and ENT Clinic Deputy Director. During this period, he took part in more than 70 assistant doctors’ specialization training both in theory and surgery.

In 1990, he founded the ENT EAR, NOSE AND THROAT CENTER with 2 ENT specialists. It was very new for our country to have physicians working together in the same branch and it was initially greeted with surprise from the public. However, the benefit of the collaboration of physicians in the same branch was felt in a short time.

As a result of teamwork, ENT Center has become a well-known health institution in the country with its intensive domestic and international scientific relations and advanced technology. He has been continuing his full-time work here, since 2006, when he left his job at the Haseki Hospital.

He was closely interested in the follow-up, supply and use of new technologies related to ENT during all his working periods. He was one of the first in Turkey to apply endoscopic examination and surgeries in the field of ENT in 1990. In the following years, he went to Italy for laser use training and get to know the application. He started to use office type carbon dioxide laser, which is one of the firsts in our country.

Furthermore, he is one of the first practitioners in our country to work with radio frequency, thermal welding, UPS and cobulation techniques in surgeries. He took an active role in the establishment of inner ear tests and balance unit, sleep tests and sleep disorders unit, sound diseases unit in ENT Center. He produced and used medical tools by collaborating with biomedical engineers so that some medical devices could be made domestically in the country.

He attended around 90 national and international congresses/meetings. He took part in the organizing committee of the international symposium for nine times. Nearly 50 professional papers, articles and books have been published by him.

He is a member of the Turkish Association of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, and he was elected to the board of directors of this association for three terms for six years between 2004 and 2015. At the same time, he took part in the board of directors of the Istanbul Ear Nose and Throat Specialists Association, of which he is one of the founding members for two years between 2010 and 2012.

He is also a member of European Medical Laser Association (EMLA), European Rhinology Association, American Otorhinolaryngology Association, Istanbul Medical Chamber, Bakırköy Businessmen's Association. He is married to his neurologist colleague and has two sons.
